What's on the CCRN exam.
The Adult CCRN is a specialty certification from AACN for nurses who care for acutely and critically ill patients. Here's exactly how it's built — the format, the passing bar, and the Synergy Model blueprint your practice should mirror.
Format at a glance
The CCRN is all multiple-choice — there are no Next-Gen item types. What makes it hard is the ICU-level acuity and the clinical data you have to interpret. Eligibility is based on documented direct-care hours with acutely/critically ill patients; confirm the current thresholds and application steps with AACN ↗.
The AACN Synergy Model blueprint
Every item maps to the Synergy Model, split into two categories. Your practice mix should match these weights so you study in the same proportions the exam tests.
Weights are from the AACN Adult CCRN Test Plan. Clinical Judgment (the five body-system categories) is 80%; Professional Caring & Ethical Practice — advocacy, ethics, collaboration, end-of-life — is the other 20% and is easy to under-study.
How CertifyRN mirrors it
- Practice is weighted to the AACN blueprint, so your mix matches the real exam.
- We render real clinical stimuli — ECG rhythm strips, hemodynamic and arterial waveforms, and ABG/lab panels — so you practice interpreting the picture, not a description of it.
- A weak-spot dashboard tracks you by domain, and a full 150-item simulation mirrors the real timing.
